2002 Yering
Farm Merlot
Tasting Notes:
A vibrant crimson wine, with rich juicy plum fruit and a hint of cherry.
An intense rich palate with silky tannins, finishing with elegance and
finesse.
Viticulture:
The Merlot is grown on Scott Henry and GDC trellising to control vigour,
maximise fruit exposure and produce low yields. The 2002 vintage resulted
in exceptionally low yields and intense flavours. Hand harvested in early
April, the non-irrigated Merlot stood the test of a long dry summer.
Winemaking:
Hand harvested, the fruit was open fermented and plunged by hand for optimum
extraction of flavour, colour and fine tannins. Once fermented, the must
was basket pressed and transferred to 225 litre French barriques for 18
months.
