2001 Yering Farm Shiraz
Tasting Note:
A lighter style Shiraz with hints of raspberries and spice. The palate
continues with clean, ripe fruit and a soft, fine structure with subtle
French oak to finish, producing an elegant Rhone style.
Viticulture:
The Shiraz is grown on Scott Henry and GDC trellising to control vigour,
maximise fruit exposure. Shoot and bunch thinning created low yeilds of
excellent quality. The 2001 vintage was a long dry summer with fruit hand
picked early April.
Winemaking:
The Shiraz was gently crushed in open top fermenters and hand plunged
for optumum extraction of flavour, colour and fine tannins. The Shiraz
was then aged in 225 litre French oak barriques for 18 months before bottling,
then cellaring for 6 months.
