2001 Yering Farm Merlot
Tasting Note:
A dense wine with rich sweet juicy plum fruit and complex malty oak. Palate
shows excellent intergration of fruit, oak and tannins with great structure
and balance. Will age well.
Viticulture:
Our Merlot is grown on Scott Henry and GDC trellising to control vigour,
maximise fruit exposure and produce low yeilds. The 2001 fruit quality
was outstanding, rich in varietal flavour and helped by a warm dry summer.
Handpicked early April.
Winemaking:
The Merlot was open fermented and plunged ny hand for optimum extraction
of flavour, colour and fine tannins. Once fermented, the must was basket
pressed and transferred to 225 litre French oak barriques for 18 months.
